Make it Your Business

TALENT: What are you good at?

PASSION: What do you love?

INCOME: What makes you money?

If you can find an answer that ticks all three of those boxes, then perhaps now is the time to start your own business.

Every day sees another announcement of a large company laying off several hundred employees. Today, I read that the Co-op Bank is closing more branches, and there will be 350 jobs lost. The stories that make the news are just the tip of the iceberg, though, with many small businesses having to cut staff numbers across several different industries.

There are still millions of UK employees on furlough, and we have to be honest and admit not all of them will be returning to their pre-COVID jobs. What can they do about it? What can they do to prepare for possible redundancy?

Setting up your own business – becoming self-employed – requires a great deal of energy and passion, but actually has a pretty low barrier to entry. You really only need two things: a product or service to sell, and a market to sell it to. Figuring those things out is not simple, but it’s a great place to start.

I am currently offering free 45 minute consultations for any prospective business owner to discuss their options. I will happily answer any questions or concerns you have about the process, and will help you to organise your thoughts and plans.

If you or anyone you know is worried about losing your job, let’s have a chat. I can’t do much about your current employment, but I can help you build your resilience to thrive with whatever comes next.
