Corporate Refugees: Navigating the Transition to Self-Employment
Are you a corporate refugee? It’s an intriguing phrase I heard the other day and I realised it describes me perfectly. What’s more it describes exactly the sort of people I want to work with.
How The Flipping Heck Do I Go On Holiday?
A question that came up in last month’s Launchpad Boardroom. If you are working on your own, how do you organise a week in the sun? Here are the conclusions we came to with some tips and a couple of principles to follow.
Onboarding - From First Contact to First Invoice
A business’s onboarding process is important not just for closing sales, but for setting the tone for a business relationship that (hopefully) will last for a long time.
Networking Tip… Prioritise Your Follow Ups
Networking Tip: The importance of prioritising connections based on two key factors: chemistry and synergy. I DREW A GRAPH!
Thursday Launch Event
New Launchpad Group - come along to our first meeting: Thursday 25th July, 0800-1000.
Networking Tip… Refresh Your Brew
Networking Tip: I got into the kitchen today to give you another networking tip. Fancy a brew?
Consistency is Key
A fascinating experience yesterday as I went to support my sister-in-law who was competing at a bodybuilding competition. A whole new world for me, but a lot of familiarity to watch the competitors prepare, and the small passionate community of supporters encourage their friends and family.
“Do I have time for Business Coaching?”
The investment in a business coach is not just about money, it also requires an investment of time. Any business owner knows that time is your most precious resource, and you can’t create more of it.
Networking Tip… Look for open groups
Networking Tip: look for open groups when you go networking, and have a really simple opening line ready. Doesn't have to be a lot of science behind it, but just be ready with a form of words to put you on the front foot when approaching people.
FAQ: Will Start Up Loans remain in place after the election?
Probably, but it might get more expensive.
Networking Tip: Be Interested Before Being Interesting
Networking Tip... Be interested before being interesting. Not just because it's polite, but because it will make you more effective!
Triathlon Coaching vs Business Coaching
What's the difference between triathlon coaching and business coaching?
A lot less than you might think...
Who’s Your Ideal Client?
Someone asked me this question at a networking event the other day. It’s a great question, and we all should be able to articulate a good answer for this. I am going to have my cake and eat it by telling you that this is a really important discipline for all businesses, but also use myself as an example for a bit of advertising!
Simon on The Streets needs YOU!
I am really happy to be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon this year with the support of Simon on The Streets. I’ve run a couple of marathons before, but never as part of a charity team. They are providing great moral support, and will be there on the day with a brew and a leg rub. And honestly, I don’t know what else a man could want.
Hidden Benefits of Sales Coaching
The primary goal of sales coaching is to increase sales. But it’s worth pointing out some of the other benefits that can result.
Make it Your Business
If you or anyone you know is worried about losing your job, let’s have a chat. I can’t do much about your current employment, but I can help you build your resilience to thrive with whatever comes next.
Bouncing Back
Much has been made of the 100% government guarantee that underwrites the Bounce Back Loan, but that protects the bank, not the borrower. This money is not a grant. It’s a loan that will need to be paid back. In the worst case scenario, if the business fails, the bank won’t be able to enforce collection on company directors. Nobody will lose their house. But they could lose their business, their livelihood, their credit rating (and with it their ability to borrow more money in future.)
